Assisted Living Waiver
The Assisted Living Waiver (ALW) program in California is a home and community-based services waiver (HCBS) available to Medi-Cal eligible elderly and disabled.- ALW supports the communities and individuals that qualify for assisted living or residential care.
- In California, the ALW program can cover the cost of approved assisted living care.
- The ALW helps elderly and disabled individuals who prefer to live in the community instead of a Skilled Nursing Facility.
- The ALW covers costs of Assisted Living Communities and Home Care agencies that provide personal support, assistance with activities of daily living, and skilled nursing care.
Covered Services
- Assistance with activities of daily living
- Meal services
- Medication administration
- Social activities
- Housekeeping
- Skilled nursing care, as needed
Eligibility For ALW
- Must receive full-scope Medi-Cal coverage.
- Be able to reside safely in an Assisted Living Community or Residential Care Facility.
- Reside in or be willing to move to one of 15 counties where LW services are provided.
